Absolutely a must! Clean, super friendly, and great prices. We had the Thursday 'lunch special' which was a chicken fried steak, best green beans EVER, real mashed potatoes and lemon cake.
I will be back and I will recommend it to everyone.

Service was great, but the food was terrible. I got the lunch special enchilada plate, the beans and rice were really dried out. Will probably not go back.

We were driving through Uvalde and decided to stop for lunch at the Sunrise Cafe. So glad we did. The cafe is clean and neat. The staff is very friendly and the food was very good.
I had a lunch special...chicken fried steak that came with yummy green beans, mashed potatoes, a roll and a piece of chocolate cake. Everything tasted good and homemade. My husband had the Mexican plate which he said was okay but the tortillas were very good.
I would stop here again. -

I had the Farmers Omelet. It comes with bacon, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes & cheese. I got mine without the cheese. There was bacon in every bite and abundant vegetables. The scoop of potatoes looked a little small on the plate, but it really was the right amount. They were about 1/2" cubes, with a nice chewy texture outside and soft inside, just how I like them. Toast was lightly browned without any butter on it, making it perfect. It was a good amount of food.
My wife had the 2 eggs with a pancake and sausage patties. Her sunny-side-up eggs were cooked to perfection with firm whites and runny yellows. The pancake was a generous size, and the 2 sausage patties were browned perfectly.
The waitress was friendly and attentive, checking with us every time she walked by. 15 tables, about 1/3 full, with 2 waitresses. Kelly was the only female customer when we arrived, the rest were working men. A pair of ladies arrived after a little while and took their own table. The restroom is just a single toilet, unisex, old and worn, but spotlessly cleaned with plenty of paper towels and soap for your hands.
This was a good experience, and we will definitely return if we come through Uvalde again.
They did have a salad bar (empty now as we are part of the breakfast crowd on a Wednesday morning). They have 2 daily specials for lunch written on the white board and the Soup of the Day says Creamy Chicken Vegetable - makes me wish we were staying for lunch, too! Sign on the front window says "No cameras or recording devices." Tho, with food this good, they should take down the sign!
